Welcoming Twitter’s Chris Fry

From Braintree’s inception more than 4 years ago, we’ve aspired to be the best payments platform for developers.  We want to do for payments what Apple’s iOS did for mobile.  By creating great developer tools and placing a beautiful layer of abstraction over very complex mobile and telecom infrastructure, Apple unlocked the innovation of millions of developers around the world.  We’re proud that we’ve made it easier for breakthrough e-commerce ideas, including Uber, Airbnb, HotelTonight, Fab, AngryBirds, OpenTable, LevelUp and thousands of others, to be built on top of a payments infrastructure that was nightmarishly complex prior to Braintree.

We still have much more work to do and we want to surround ourselves with people that can help us build a world-class developer platform that will power the next generation of online and mobile commerce.  To that end, we’re thrilled to welcome Chris Fry, SVP of Engineering at Twitter, to our board of directors.

At Twitter, Chris is responsible for one of the most widely used developer platforms in the world.  Twitter has created a platform for hundreds of millions of users and many tens of thousands of developers to share and connect to information.  There are few platforms in the world that have that kind of reach and utility.  Twitter is also one of the most widely used mobile applications in the world due both to its utility and fantastic user experience.

We’re working to make Braintree that kind of platform in the world of online and mobile commerce - one that developers around the world will find to have such utility that they want to find reasons to build on it.  We’re also working to make Venmo that kind of mobile app - where making payments and getting paid is as easy as sending or receiving a tweet.  We couldn’t be more thrilled to have Chris on our team to help us continue building toward those aspirations!

BTW - We’re hiring!  If you’d like to help us build the developer platform for the next generation of online and mobile commerce, we’d love to have you talk to our teams in San Francisco, Chicago or New York.
