Introducing Venmo Touch: One Touch Payment Across Apps

At Braintree, our mission is to simplify payments for developers and for businesses so that they can focus on building ground-breaking services and companies. Just as AWS has freed developers from the need to worry about building and maintaining server infrastructure, our goal is to continue to be the platform for the future of commerce that enables web companies to focus on their core businesses.

Despite the magical buying experiences being built by companies in the Braintree network, entering a card continues to be a pain for customers. Even though you can seemingly do anything on your mobile device, when you want to buy something, you still need to get out your credit card, type the 16-digits, select expiration date, and enter in a card verification code on a small virtual keyboard.

With many of the best mobile commerce companies already running on Braintree and millions of cards in our network, we found ourselves in the unique position to eliminate one of the most painful parts of the purchase experience that has existed since the beginning of ecommerce. While our platform provides great power for companies individually, we realized there was even more value to the companies using our platform if they could leverage the power of the network.

To solve this consumer problem and give more power to the companies on our platform, we teamed up with Venmo and began working on a product that brings to life our vision for the best possible purchasing experience on mobile. Today we are introducing Venmo Touch on iOS: a connective tissue linking merchants on the fast-growing Braintree payment network that provides payment identity for consumers and enables an easier mobile sign-up process. Venmo Touch offers a simple, secure way to authorize the credit card that a customer previously used with another Braintree partner on the network or with Venmo itself, enabling a seamless checkout across apps. We have worked hard to make a consumer experience that is both intuitive and pleasantly surprising. See how it works touch.venmo.com or read more about the consumer experience thinking on blog.venmo.com.

In addition to ensuring a frictionless consumer experience, we have focused, as always, on making the developer experience as simple as possible.  An existing Braintree merchant should be able to complete the integration in an afternoon. Simply add the Venmo Touch SDK to your iOS app, and when a customer uses a card already saved in the Vault, you get the card payment token; processing transactions with the Braintree Gateway, is no different than it is today.

We are excited to help accelerate the mobile commerce revolution by making the buying experience as compelling and frictionless as everything else on your mobile device.
