Four short years ago, we revealed that we were joining forces with PayPal, with a shared vision and mission to revolutionize online and mobile commerce experiences for merchants worldwide. Today, we process payments for merchants in over 40 countries, accept more than 130 currencies, and power innovative experiences for some of the largest global ecommerce innovators and mobile-first businesses in the world.
We joined the PayPal family because we knew their scale, reach, and trusted brand name, coupled with Braintree’s innovative payments infrastructure would allow us to create the platform that would transform commerce. But more importantly, we understood the value of connecting merchants and consumers to build delightful commerce experiences. With PayPal’s 210 million active consumer accounts including 17 million merchant accounts, we can do things no other platform in the world can. If we combine that with the vast global payment rails of both Braintree and PayPal, we’re excited about the many innovations that lie ahead.
Acquisitions and partnerships are hard, and too often we see them not reach their full potential. However, together with PayPal, we have worked tirelessly to deliver world-class experiences to our merchants and, as a result, we’ve been fortunate enough to achieve some incredible milestones over the last four years -- including crossing $50B in authorized payment volume in 2014 and growing 25x post-acquisition year-over-year by 2015.
We’ve always said that our merchants are at the forefront of everything we do and they are the reason why just last month, we announced that we processed more than 1 billion quarterly transactions through our platform. They say numbers don’t lie and we can’t agree more -- our story proves that when it comes to PayPal and Braintree, we are more than just the sum of our parts.
As we reflect on some of the exciting things that we’ve accomplished, we are reminded that we are in the position we are in today because of our place within the PayPal family. We’re also humbled by the trust that our merchants have placed in us, because we would not be here today without that. We know there is a lot more work to do, but we’re more excited than ever to keep changing the way the world does commerce.
