Adding to Braintree’s Mobile and International Capabilities

I’m excited to announce that we’ve added two tremendously capable leaders to the Braintree team.  Aunkur Arya has joined as our GM of Mobile and Klas Bäck has joined as our GM of International and Payment Strategy.

Mobile and international represent massive opportunities for developers, entrepreneurs and e-commerce companies and both are very significant components of Braintree’s vision for the future of e-commerce. With more than 20% of e-commerce shopping sessions now happening on mobile devices and that number growing by 2 to 3x annually, e-commerce developers must build for mobile or risk being left behind.  Developers and entrepreneurs also need to take their e-commerce applications international more rapidly than ever because of far-reaching distribution platforms, such as the App Store and Facebook.  Aunkur and Klas bring many years of experience and innovation in mobile and international payments that will drive forward Braintree’s vision in these areas.

Aunkur comes to us from Google, where he was Head of VAS Partnerships for Google Wallet. Prior to Google he was part of the core business team and led Mobile app business development efforts at AdMob, a leading mobile advertising network for developers that was acquired by Google in 2010 and became Google’s primary mobile ad platform. As our GM of Mobile, he will drive growth for Braintree’s mobile payment platform and lead mobile business development efforts by forming partnerships with key players in the mobile ecosystem.

As the GM of International and Payment Strategy, Klas will manage our international relations and further our global expansion. Klas was previously with Digital River, where he was the VP of Strategic Business Development. Before that, Klas built out the international footprint for Netgiro, the company Digital River acquired to create a new global payments business unit under the name of Digital River World Payments. The international payments capabilities that Klas helped to build at Netgiro are still used today by Paypal,  Expedia, Ticketmaster, American Apparel and many other large companies around the world.  As we expand beyond the US, Canada and Europe, Klas will help us launch in new countries around the world.

As developers and entrepreneurs race to capture opportunities in mobile and international, Braintree is committed to providing the tools that will allow them to do so, just as we have for the thousands of e-commerce companies.  We’ve made significant strides forward in these areas as we now handle more than $1billion in mobile volume, added digital wallet and mobile payment application Venmo to our team and launched our services in more than 30 new countries.  However, we have much more to do and I couldn’t be more thrilled to have such remarkably talented individuals as Aunkur and Klas join the Braintree team as we build the tools that will power the next generation of e-commerce.
